Bedding vs pointing — what's the difference?
The ridge and hip caps along the top edges of a tile roof sit on a bed of mortar. That's the bedding. Over it goes the pointing — the finishing layer that seals the joint and keeps water out.
Over the years sun, rain and roof movement crack both. Once the bedding crumbles, caps work loose and water gets under them. Re-bedding replaces the mortar under the caps; re-pointing renews the seal on top.
Signs your roof needs it
Cracked or crumbling mortar along the ridge caps, loose or rocking caps, bits of mortar in the gutters after wind, or damp patches in the ceiling. A free inspection tells you either way — and if it doesn't need doing yet, Ben will say so.
How the job is done
Old, failed mortar is stripped back and the caps are lifted, the ridge is re-bedded, the caps are re-set and aligned, then the whole line is re-pointed for a weathertight finish.

Questions
How much does re-bedding and re-pointing cost?
It depends on how many ridge and hip lines need doing and their condition, so Ben inspects first and gives a free, fixed written quote. It's usually far cheaper than a full re-roof.
Is it covered by a warranty?
We offer a workmanship warranty, on top of your rights under Australian Consumer Law. Ask us for the details that apply to your job.
